Maria Corina Machado is an industrial engineer and a high profile politician born on October 7, 1967, in Caracas, Venezuela. Her first political involvement started in the year 2002 when she co-founded the civil society organization known as Sugmate that promoted electoral transparency. Machado subsequently co-founded a political party Vente Venezuela and represents the party in the National Assembly between 2011 and 2014. She has also been a vocal critic of the authoritarian government of President NicolƔs Maduro and has been persecuted in considerable political ways, including being excluded as a presidential candidate in the 2024 presidential race. Her efforts as a leader have played a role in bringing together a once divided opposition and gaining national and international backing towards democratic changes.
